Public Celebration | Dam Square, Amsterdam
Join the Tibetan Community Netherlands in celebrating H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday on Dam Square in Amsterdam.
This event is supported by International Campaign for Tibet Europe.
PROGRAMME:
12:50 – Warm welcome to the audience. A portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is brought to the stage.
13:00 – Prayer session for the long life of His Holiness, led by Geshe Zodpa. Audience offers
a kata to the portrait.
13:15 – Video message from His Holiness to the audience.
13:25 – Welcome speech by the President of TCNL and introduction of the Mayor.
13:35 – Speeches:
• Opening speech by the Mayor of Amsterdam Municipality – to be confirmed
• Short speech by Tsering Jampa from the Tibet Support Group.
• Performance by students of the Tibetan Weekend School.
• Interfaith messages from representatives of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism, Thai Buddhism, and Rigpa Buddhist Centre.
• Tibetan cultural dance by Drora Tramo Dance Group.
• Song of gratitude for His Holiness’s long life by Choesang.
• Group dance performance by students of the Tibetan Weekend School and Students for a Free Tibet.
• Speech by Wangpo Tethong, Director of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) in Europe.
15:45 – Birthday cake ceremony and Compassionate Lunch offering.
16:00 – Lhagyal Theen – traditional flour offering ritual performed together by the audience.
