Moments that shaped the movement for Tibet from the courage of 1959 to global solidarity today, a journey of resilience, compassion, and action. 

The story of Tibet’s struggle for freedom and dignity is marked by courage, faith, and global solidarity. For more than six decades, Tibetans and their supporters have kept the vision of a free Tibet alive, guided by the principles of non-violence and compassion

The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) is proud to have contributed to many of these milestones, working alongside Tibetans, governments, and global citizens to advance justice and preserve Tibet’s unique heritage. 

Key Milestones 

2025 – “Compassion Rising” World Tour
A global campaign celebrating the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, spreading his message of compassion, non-violence, and universal responsibility.

2024 – Passage of the Resolve Tibet Act (United States)
A historic step reaffirming U.S. support for dialogue between the Dalai Lama’s representatives and the Chinese government, and for Tibetans’ right to self-determination.

2018 – Honouring Lodi Gyari
ICT remembers Lodi Gyari, the Dalai Lama’s chief negotiator with China and a founding force behind ICT, whose vision continues to inspire our work.

2008 – Global Protests During the Beijing Olympics
The world witnesses widespread demonstrations demanding human rights and justice for Tibet. ICT plays a leading role in amplifying Tibetan voices worldwide.

2005 – ICT Receives the Geuzenpenning
ICT is honoured in the Netherlands with the Geuzen Medal for its dedication to the non-violent struggle for Tibet’s rights and freedoms.

1999 – ICT Europe Established in Amsterdam
ICT expands to Europe, opening offices in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Brussels to strengthen advocacy within the EU and international institutions.

1989 – The Dalai Lama Receives the Nobel Peace Prize
Recognised for his unwavering commitment to non-violence, peace, and human values, the Dalai Lama’s award brings Tibet’s cause to the global stage.

1988 – Foundation of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT)
ICT is founded in Washington, D.C., to promote human rights, democracy, and environmental protection for the Tibetan people.

These milestones remind us that Tibet’s struggle is not only about a land or a people, it is about the universal values of peace, justice, and compassion that bind us all.
