European Countries and Tibet

Keeping Tibet on Europe’s Political Agenda

From Paris to Prague, European countries play a vital role in defending Tibet’s freedom and human rights.

Across Europe, Tibet’s future is on the agenda – thanks to coordinated action in 13 countries. From Brussels to Berlin, we make sure Tibet’s struggle for freedom and human rights cannot be ignored.

In Tibet, repression is systematic: language, religion, and identity are under attack. The Chinese authorities punish Tibetan voices, while trying to silence international attention. Europe must respond.

The International Campaign for Tibet keeps Tibet visible in European politics. Our team provides evidence-based reports, organises briefings for diplomats, and ensures that the EU raises cases of Tibetan human rights defenders and political prisoners with China. We also push for stronger measures, like the adoption of sanctions under the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime, to hold Chinese officials responsible for human rights violations in Tibet accountable.

We are currently active in 13 European countries: Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

How we work across Europe

  1. Monitoring & reporting – Sharing credible updates from inside Tibet with policymakers.
  1. Diplomatic briefings – Bringing Tibetan voices to European embassies and ministries.
  1. Accountability – Pushing for sanctions against Chinese officials responsible for abuses.
