The International Campaign for Tibet, together with the World Uyghur Congress, Lungta Belgium and Tibetan associations in Belgium, invites friends of Tibet, Uyghurs, Mongolians and all supporters of human rights to join a public protest in Brussels against China’s newly adopted “Ethnic Unity” law.
The law, which will come into force on 1 July 2026, is presented by the Chinese authorities as a framework for “ethnic unity”. In reality, it institutionalises existing policies of forced assimilation targeting Tibetans, Uyghurs, Southern Mongolians and other communities, accelerating the erasure of their distinct languages, cultures, religions and identities.
Participants will gather to express their opposition to this legislation and to call on the international community and European Union Member States to follow-up on the concern expressed by UN human rights experts and the European Parliament on this issue and to take concrete action against policies that undermine the rights of ethnic communities.
