Gonpo was released after around eight days of detention, while her husband was released after five days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Gonpo Kyi - Feb. 20, 2024\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jGL2Bh0qexo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unconfirmed reports indicate that the authorities of Lhasa had been attempting to expel Gonpo and her husband from Lhasa back to their native hometown of Labrang (Chinese: Xiahe) in Gansu Province to prevent them from staging further protests in front of the Higher People\u2019s Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/shorts\/jGL2Bh0qexo?feature=share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latest video clip<\/a> obtained by the International Campaign for Tibet, Gonpo can be seen sitting in front of the gate of the Higher People\u2019s Court on 20 February, holding a flyer and a portrait of Chinese leader Xi Jinping. In the clip, the flyer written in Chinese that Gonpo holds in her right hand reads: \u201cDorjee Tashi has not committed any crime.\u201d She also holds a portrait of President Xi Jinping in her lap supported by her left hand. The videographer states that the date of the video is 20 February, and the location is the Higher People\u2019s Court of the Tibet Autonomous Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared to her previous sit-ins, Gonpo holding a large portrait of Xi Jinping is a new tactic, presumably indicating she\u2019s appealing for intervention from China\u2019s top leader in accordance with the constitution to defend justice. Holding a portrait of Xi is also tactical as a safeguard against the police and officials forcibly removing her from the spot and putting her into detention again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Campaign for Tibet will continue to monitor the status of Gonpo Kyi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dorjee Tashi<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ICT has previously documented the torture of the renowned Tibetan businessman and philanthropist Dorjee Tashi during his pre-trial detention, as well as his family\u2019s tireless <a href=\"https:\/\/savetibet.nl\/family-of-famous-imprisoned-tibetan-businessman-campaign-for-justice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">advocacy<\/a> for justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both the United States and the European Union have raised concerns about the arbitrary detention of Dorjee Tashi.
