\"Tibet-map-immolations-0904-mid\"<\/a>As of 30 September 2019, and since February 2009, there have been 155 confirmed self-immolations within Tibet and the PRC, 12 occurring in 2011, 86 in 2012, 27 in 2013, 11 in 2014, 7 in 2015, 3 in 2016, 5 in 2017 and 4 in 2018. This map marks the locations of the self-immolations. Detailed information about each self-immolation can be viewed here.<\/a>\n\nThe Chinese authorities in Tibet have intensified measures to prevent information reaching the outside world about the self-immolations. This has been combined with a more aggressive and formalized response to the self-immolations, involving harsh sentencing and torture for those suspected of involvement, even if that is simply bearing witness.
