Panel discussion: The stories and voices of Tibetan women<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On 6 March, an inspiring panel discussion took place at The Social Hub Amsterdam City as part of the second edition of International Campaign for Tibet’s Tibet Days, which this year focused on Tibetan women. The evening centered on the stories, experiences, and resilience of Tibetan women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the guidance of moderator Ardi Bouwers, three remarkable panelists shared their personal stories and perspectives on what it means to be a Tibetan woman in exile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lhamo Tso spoke about her long-standing struggle for the release of her husband, filmmaker Dhondup Wangchen, who was arrested in 2008 and imprisoned for six years for his involvement in the documentary Leaving Fear Behind<\/em>. Her story showed how personal experiences can evolve into powerful international advocacy. She now lives in San Francisco, where she founded a childcare center in 2024 to support Tibetan families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Migmar Dolma also shared her experiences. Born in Zurich and active in the Tibetan freedom movement for over twenty years, she works closely with former Tibetan political prisoners and is engaged in advocacy at the United Nations in Geneva. Alongside her activism, she is currently working on her first novel, Sangmo<\/em>, for which she received a literary grant from the Canton of Zurich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third speaker, Yeshe Khandrola, spoke about her life journey from Manali in India to Europe. Holding two master\u2019s degrees in sustainable development and international human rights law, and with a background in social work, she has been committed to the Tibetan community and the freedom movement for decades. She now lives in Rotterdam and serves as Executive Director of the Phuntsok Ch\u00f6 Ling Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center, where she focuses on community empowerment and compassionate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the panel discussion, themes such as identity, activism, family, and the role of Tibetan women within the community and the broader freedom movement were explored. The speakers emphasized how their personal stories are connected to the collective struggle for justice and cultural survival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening offered not only space for reflection, but also an opportunity to connect across generations and communities. Through their stories, the panelists demonstrated the strength of Tibetan women\u2019s voices and the importance of ensuring they continue to be heard. The panel discussion thus marked a meaningful conclusion to an inspiring evening as part of Tibet Days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
